With a letterpress title-page in red and black, all 68 plates listed in the index plate (where they are numbered 1- 67, plate "26" actually comprising 2 plates) plus the index plate itself and 3 additional plates not always included. Many of the plates are double-page or larger folding, 3 are maps (one in the form of a foolscap), several include letterpress text, and some have elaborate decorative borders. One (loosely inserted) map is a sophistication. Contemporary sprinkled calf, gold-tooled spine and board edges, blue-sprinkled edges, new endpapers.

  50 ENGRAVED PORTRAITS OF IMPORTANT CHURCH REFORMERS

The Hague, Beucker Cornelisz. Nieulandt, 1603. 4to (22.5 x 17.5 cm). With the letterpress title in a window cut in the plate used for the engraved title-page of the Latin edition (with 7 tiny figures representing the Pope as antichrist in the mouth of the devil, and Roman Catholic bishops and cardinals falling through the air and losing their hats, staffs, etc.), 50 engraved portrait plates (13 x 12 cm plus the name and 4-line Latin verse at the foot) by Hendrik HONDIUS, showing important church reformers, an engraved emblematic plate, showing a diagram of a geocentric solar eclipse (an allegory for the anti-Christ blocking God's light?) with a Latin poem below it, Nieulandt's woodcut device above the colophon and 16 decorative woodcut initials (2 series) plus about 40 repeats (the largest initial shows the fall of Icarus). Seventeenth or early eighteenth-century calf, gold-tooled spine (nineteenth-century labels), red-sprinkled edges, with the ca. 1762 armorial bookplate of Count Franciscus Cornelis Ghislenus Cuypers.

Rotterdam, 18 February 1864. Royal 4to (30 x 22.5 cm) with the 4-page newspaper folded and bound in at the end. With a vignette on the title-page, a double-tinted frontispiece view of the city and 23 additional double-tinted lithographed views of buildings and other sights, printed in 2 or 3 colours and black. The third chapter is devoted to the Museum Boymans, and the newspaper includes a lengthy article about its destruction by fire. Slightly later (ca. 1890?) publisher's green cloth, gold- and blind-blocked.
