Both parts of the famous school-book on arithmetic by Willem Bartjens (ca. 1569-1647), with the first part in a very rare 1657 edition and the second part in a rare 1637 reissue of the first edition published in 1636. No other arithmetic book was more influential at Dutch schools for over two centuries and "according to Bartjens" became a proverbial saying in the Netherlands. It is not only a corner-stone for every school-book and arithmetic collection, but also of importance for the history of book-keeping and for the topography of Zwolle and its surroundings.
Some occasional spots, a few minor wormholes and some dampstains. Binding soiled, with old owner's name burnt in front, and inner hinges cracked (book block nearly detached). Reasonable copy.
