Interesting and scarce posthumous work of Pieter Jansz. Twisck (1565-1631). The preface is signed P.J. Twisck, with his motto "Na Beter," which could be taken from an early manuscript or could be the author's grandson, also called Pieter Jansz. Twisck, who is known to have edited some of the posthumous works and may have used the same motto. The preface says the book has some similarities, regarding the choice of authors, with his book Fondament from 1633. It contains 27 articles based on statements of classical and "new" authors, from Plato to Erasmus, that suit Mennonite doctrine. It covers subjects such as God, praying, the law and baptism.
With the signature of the American baptist theologian Howard Osgood (1831-1911) and the embossed stamp of the Rochester Theological Seminary on the title-page. With 4 leaves replaced in manuscript, as noted, but otherwise a very good copy. A scarce posthumous work by Twisck.
