Amsterdam, Cornelis Claesz [printed by Peeter Verhagen in Dordrecht], 1597. 8vo with woodcut publisher's device on the title-page and 2 decorative woodcut initials. Set in textura types with incidental roman. Eighteenth-century vellum.
| Orders and Information | € 1250 |
First and only edition of a separately-published appendix intended as a supplement to the 1595 Chronycke van Hollant, Zeelant ende Vrieslant, covering events in the then most recent stage (1591 to 1597: the Chronycke stopped at 1591) of what was to become the Eighty-Years' War. The book is attributed to Ellert de Veer (ca. 1540-1599), a Protestant who edited the second volume of the Chronycke and here concentrates on the Dutch Republic's war against Catholic Spain. Claesz published a folio and an 8vo edition. The present edition appeared in three issues, the others published by Peeter Verhaghen and by Jasper Troyen, with only a different device.
In good condition, but with some running heads or page numbers shaved, and 2 minor tears neatly repaired. A useful supplement to the Chronicle of Holland, Zeeland and Friesland.
