Dutch New Testament and Psalmbook, with additional songs and a catechism. The New Testament is in the States translation that had been the standard for the Dutch Reformed Church since 1619 and the Psalms are in the official metrical States version of 1773. The Reformed evangelical songbook is in a version introduced in 1805 and expanded with additional songs to reach its final form of 1867. It was composed with the help of the well known Dutch preacher and poet Nicolaas Beets (1814-1903).
The present copy was a baptimal gift for Suzanna Petronella Nicolette Wolff, born 15 October 1874, from her maternal grandmother Suzanna Boelhouwer. She was baptised at the Westerkerk in Amsterdam on 22 November 1874. It contains detailed notes about the birth and baptism and further genealogical notes on the parents and maternal grandparents, and the family burial plot. There is an oblong rectangular hallmark (perhaps with round or pointed ends) stamped on the inside of each catchplate, but it is difficult to read. Only the "+" in the centre is clear, though there is clearly one letter before and one after it. We have not identified it in Meestertekens ... 1814-1963.
In very good condition. A States Bible in an 1874 tortoise-shell binding, with hallmarked gold clasps.
