(10), 16; 18 pp. Wellcome 1035; GVK (5 copies); not in Berlin Kat.; for Strada: Thieme-Becker XXXII, pp. 145-147.
Reissue of a richly illustrated posthumous work on all aspects of water techniques and hydraulics all drawn by Jacobus de Strada (1507-1588), and brought to the attention of the publisher by his son Octavius de Strada (1550-1612). The first part was published in 1617 (here 1618) and followed by a second part in 1618, at the same time both parts where also issued in French. A second German edition appeared in 1623.
De Strada was active in many fields, as an architect, painter, designer for goldsmiths, art collector, antiques dealer, author, publisher, etc, and, judging from the present work, technically gifted. He gives a clear exposition of pumping engines, watermills and all sorts of water-powered machines accompanied by short descriptions and an introduction by the German architect and mathematician Benjamin Bramer (1588-1652).
Very good copy. Binding also in very good condition.
