First French translation of this work originally published in Latin in 1668. The author, a German diplomat, was sent as an envoy by the Emperor Leopold I to the Court of Czar Alexei Michaelovitch in 1661 to re-establish peace between Poland and Russia. This account of his experiences contains much useful information on 17th-century Russian manners and customs.
