| Orders and Information | € 650 |
First and only edition of a nice collection of engraved plates showing about 130 species of fish from 57 numbered genera, including eels, skates, sharks and a sawfish. A four-page systematic classification groups them under six orders and gives references to the plate and figure numbers. Kielsen (1774-1850) published some botanical works at an early age, but turned to zoology, his most important publications being the five illustrated classifications published in 1835, on mammals, amphibians, etc., including the present one on fish. The literature variously described it as an 8vo (because of its shape) or 4to (because it has what look like vertical laid lines -- there are no chainlines or watermarks). It may actually be a 6mo, with the three letterpress leaves made from a half sheet and the 48 plates from 8 sheets.
In very good condition. A nice set of ichthyology prints, with a classification.
