Album amicorum in the form of a book-shaped box with 39 loose leaves (last blank) with washed pencil drawings, pen & ink drawings, watercolours, and curious portraits (21), and an embroidered flower incorporating small beads, owned by Cornelis van Rossem (1815-1891), student of medicine at the University at Leiden. Van Rossem matriculated at Leiden on 9 September 1835 (Alb. Stud. 1307). The contributions are mainly from his fellow students, and date from 1834 till 1839; there are some later contributions. Apparently his son, Dr. Petrus Cornelius van Rossem (1847-1916) added 2 pen drawings by his father on the back of postcards (nos. 17-18). He also added 7 mostly satirical washed pen and ink drawings by himself (nos. 19-20, 22, 32-35), 5 of which also on the back of postcards.
Cornelis van Rossem was born in Amsterdam and became, after his studies at Leiden, a well-known physician in the same city. He matriculated in Leiden on 9 September 1835.
With a dried flower added to leaf no. 38 with a pin through the paper. Overall a fine album.
