Third edition of a famous, beautifully illustrated chronicle of the city and Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn in the northwest German Duchy of Westphalia, written by the Prince Bishop, Ferdinand of Fürstenberg (1626-1683) and first published in 1669. Fürstenberg was a poet, historian, scholar and promotor of arts and sciences. In the book many monuments are described. These monuments commemorate historical or other events or occasions. Churches, bridges and wells are also reckoned among these monuments. The monuments are beautifully illustrated with nice views. It also includes 3 maps, depicting the Diocese of Paderborn at the time of publication, during the Roman Empire and during the Frankish Empire. The Paneygyricus gives a rather compact but also detailed account of Paderborn through the ages, with an emphasis on religious and especially academic aspects.
With contemporary manuscript notes in ink and pencil on the first free endleaf the bookplate of the Neander Library. Binding slightly soiled, otherwise in fine condition. Ebert 14340; Fauser I, LX; cf. Landwehr, Romein de Hooghe 23; Willems 1473.
