First part of the Elenchus fungorum, the principal work of the notable German naturalist August Johann Georg Carl Batsch. It gives extensive descriptions and depictions of lesser known mushrooms, building on the taxonomy of Micheli. The text is printed in two columns, one with Latin and the other with German text, and describes 58 different mushrooms, which are depicted in the hand-coloured plates. In 1786 and 1789, two subsequent parts were published.
Lacking the title-page in Latin. With the owner's inscription of the Swiss mycologist Louis Secretan (1758-1839) on the back of the second flyleaf. Some manuscript notes on the plates, probably by Secretan, plates strengthened on the back. Overall in good condition.
