Second edition, in the original French, of an allegorical novel satirizing the establishment of the Régence, the period just after King Louis XIV's death, when Louis XV was still a minor and France was ruled by the regent Phillipe d'Orléans. The novel incorporates the most important figures during the Régence, but they have been given oriental names. The author, Jean-François Melon (1675-1738), states he translated it from an original Arabic text, but actually wrote the novel himself.With the coat of arms of Louis-Marie Alexandre, Duc d'Aumont (1736-1814) in gold on both boards.
