Rare festival and costume book depicting a festive entry of the Leiden Student fraternity held on the occasion of the 295th anniversary of the Leiden University in 1870. The students impersonated the entry of Robert Lord Dudley, Earl of Leicester who visited Leiden in 1586, and were dressed up in 16th-century costumes. The lithographs were printed by P.W.M. Trap after drawings by the Leiden artist Gerardus Johannes Bos (1825-1898) after instruction by members of the festival commission: A. Brants, A. Nijpels and P. van der Poel. The text, printed on blue paper, gives a list of 224 names of the participants of the procession and their role. Spine restored; some minor browning. Very good copy of this illustrated masquerade procession. Not in Landwehr, Splendid Ceremonies; Lipperheide.
