First edition of an illustrated work on beetles by the German naturalist, ornithologist and entomologist Friedrich Berge (1811-1883). The 36 plates depict 1315 beetles and larvae, the majority of which are coloured by hand. The work opens with a general introduction to natural history and closes with a German and a Latin index. Also includes is a section on collecting and preserving beetles.
