A nearly complete set of one of the rarest orchid iconographies, issued in a edition of 250 copies only. The illustrations were printed by Goffart after watercolours by Alphonse Goosens (1866-1944), one of the most prominent botanical artists of the period. The orchids are ordered according to genus and each plate is accompanied by a explanatory leaf, which sometimes includes small wood engraved illustrations of details of the flower.
Text leaves somewhat browned, a few plates slightly damaged around the margins. Front board of volume six detached. Otherwise in good condition.
