First edition of the collected poems by one of the most important poets of the second generation of the Dutch Golden Age. Jeremias de Decker (1609-1666) was a follower of the great poets of the Dutch Golden Age. His household poems (so-called "huizelijke poëzie", or domestic poetry) of which De Decker was one of the first practitioners, are considered his best work.
Ad 2: Second edition of a satirical work on avarice, for the first time published in 1667; a third edition appeared in 1702. The work is based on Erasmus's Praise of Folly in Westerbaen's translation, and also includes a poem in praise of one of Rembrandts paintings.
With a contemporary annotation on the first free flyleaf (the title repeated), dated 8 May 1660, and a 19th-century annotation on the back pastedown ("Ex libris P. N. Zopore(?) P.J.F. 1864"). The vellum is somewhat soiled, the shelf mark label on the spine has been torn in half. The frontispiece has been pasted to a stub, the fore edge margins of the first few quires are slightly water stained, not affecting the text, the edges of the woodcut vignette on the title page have been perforated, which is only visible on the verso.
