TOPINARD, Paul.
Étude sur les races indigènes de l'Australie.
Paris, A. Hennuyer, 1872. 8vo. Contemporary blue half cloth. 119, [1] pp.
€ 2,950
Interesting study on the indigenous races of Australia, written by the physician and anthropologist Paul Topinard (1830-1911). It was presented on 15 February 1872 to the Société d'anthropologie, in the name of the Commission permanente pour l'Océanie. ''This elaborate memoir will be read with great pleasure by all who take an interest in the aborigines of Australia. The most important [of Topinard's conclusions] concern the typical differences presented by a comparison of the aborigines among themselves, and those which relate to their connection with other races'' (C.S.W.).
Front board and title-page slightly damaged by removal of indications of a former owner, but otherwise in good condition, with a small stain on title-page, board edges slightly worn. Important study of the aborigines of Australia. C.S.W., "Review of Étude sur les races indigenes de l'Australie by Paul Topinard", in: Journal of the Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, 2 (1873), pp. 307-309; Ferguson 17214.
