First edition of an extensive work on Ichneumonidae, a family of parasitoid wasps from the order Hymenoptera, compiled by the German entomologist Johann Ludwig Christian Gravenhorst (1777-1857), professor at the University of Göttingen and professor of zoology and director of the Zoological Museum in Wroclaw. He was a specialist on Ichneumonidae and Staphylinidae. The work covers many different species of wasps, with descriptions of their appearance and habitat.
With the manuscript owner's inscription of Nils Anders Gadolin (1829-1879) on paste-down. Bindings slightly rubbed along the extremities. A very good copy. Hagen I, p. 300; Horn & Schenkling 8365.
