One of the first editions of a best-selling English cookery book written by William Augustus Henderson, which was published in 17 editions up to 1823. The book contains the most diverse 18th-century recipes, from soups and broths to ragouts, stews and vegetables to pastry and other sweet foods, such as puddings, cheesecakes and pancakes. It also discusses several cooking techniques, such as pickling, collaring and potting and other methods to preserve, meat, fruit and vegetables.
Binding a little worn, a few bits of the marbled paper lost at the corners. First leaves slightly browned, frontispiece a little loose and some small holes and tears in the subscriber's list (neither affecting the text or plates). ESTC T127430; cf.
