"Fourth edition" of this important extensive and comprehensive dictionary of active substances in alphabetical order that can possibly be used as medicine: composites and simples respectively giving the sources, virtues, doses, and therapeutic action of the various medicaments. It is considered, together with Lémerys Pharmacopée universelle - one of the most authoritative pharmacopoeia of 18th-century Europe - as one if the two complementary works which form Lémerys chief contributions to pharmacy.
This "fourth edition" is probably the third pirate edition published in the Netherlands.
The original French edition had appeared in Paris in 1698 by Laurent dHoury; the second in 1714. The "real" third edition would appear in 1723 in Paris, also by DHoury. A translation into Dutch appeared in 1743 in Rotterdam by J.D. Beman.
Head of spine restored. Binding worn, especially the back side and around the spine, front hinge a little weak, some staining (especially in the upper margin), some edges of the plates strengthened, but still in good condition.
