Ad 1: First edition of an extensive work on ancient Biblical and ecclesiastical rituals by the German Lutheran theologian Johannes Andreas Quenstedt (1617-1688). The work is divided into 14 chapters covering the Old and New Testament, church hierarchy, the ancient performance of rituals like the Eucharist and baptism, sacred sites, feast days, ancient cults and much more. Quenstedt often refers to similar rituals in Hebrew, Roman and Greek traditions.
Ad 2: First edition of a work on ancient Greece by the German theologian Johann Philipp Pfeiffer (1645-1695). The text is divided into four "libri": the first dealing with the Greek (pagan) religion, covering deities, offerings and temples; the second covers the politics of ancient Greece; the third deals with warfare and the fourth with domestic life. The text includes many Greek passages from ancient sources like Homer and Aristotle.
First two leaves slightly thumbed and occasionally some minor foxing or faint water stains, mostly marginal. Engraved title-page and portrait of ad 2 closely trimmed, touching the image. Overall in very good condition. Ad 1: VD17 12:116167M; ad 2: VD 17 14:019733E.
