Early German translation of copy of the Oratorio de religiosos y Exercicio de virtuosos by Antonio de Guevara (c. 1480-1545); one of the few religious treatises written by the popular Spanish writer.
The treatise consists of a series of short exhortations or homilies, with a text prefixed to each, written in the same style like his other works. Guevaras mannerism and imagery widely influenced fellow Baroque writers and those who followed him in the sixteenth and seventeenth century.
This ascetic work is one of the most renowned texts of the Spanish author, historian moralist and later Bishop of the Renaissance, Antonio de Guevara (c. 1480-1545).
Large early woodcut bookplate (12,6 x 8,7 cm) on front pastedown. Leaves with tabs for easy access to chapters. Binding rubbed, one claps missing, library stamp and signature on title-page, two library stamps on free endpaper. Internally a very good copy and a pleasant copy of the period in original condition.
